City Sends PMKS to Oil Palm Plantations for Better Life

In a bid to minimize the existence of people with social welfare problems (PMKS) in the capital city, Jakarta Social Department on Sunday (5/11) sent 30 netted PMKS in the productive age of 25-45 years old to transmigration area, or precisely to oil palm plantations in Central Kalimantan, so they would have a better life. Before departed, the PMKS were given basic necessities.

Based on Jakarta Social Department data, 100 PMKS were sent to transmigration area in 2010, 130 people in 2011, 40 people in 2012, and 55 people in 2013.

“This year, we’re targeting to send 100 PMKS,” he stated.

As for the amount of PMKS netted along this year, Masrokhan told there were 3,474 PMKS netted from five municipalities.

“Urbanization cannot be pressed yet, thus PMKS existence in Jakarta is still high. Among those PMKS, some are going back and forth every day to their hometowns, like Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi,” he said.
